Colorado Democratic Party Headquarters Vandalized Today
State Democratic Chair Calls for honest and nonviolent debate on Health Care Insurance Reform
Denver, CO - The Colorado Democratic Party Headquarters Offices on the corner of 8th and Santa Fe Drive in Denver were vandalized early Tuesday morning. The vandalism consisted of eleven smashed windows around the corner storefront office.
"It's unfortunate that people feel they must resort to violence and vandalism to get their point across," said Pat Waak, Chair and Executive Director of the Colorado Democratic Party. "There are more constructive ways to discuss the health care insurance reform debate that lead to solutions. This is the most important debate in our lifetime and affects the lives of almost every citizen. We want to hear from everyone in a peaceful, civil way."
The smashed windows were found on and around posters declaring the Party's position on the healthcare reform insurance debate and on pictures of the President.
"We are grateful that it happened at such an early hour that no one was hurt and that police were able to detain the suspect quickly," stated Pat Waak.
Police have detained an individual who was spotted in the act of the vandalism and are currently investigating further.
The Colorado Democratic Party estimates the damages at approximately $10,000.
