Mercury Storage Discussion - 4

I am not sure I agree with you.  The building at the tailings disposal area, as I understand it, really has nothing to do with the tailings other than being a building on land controlled by the Dept. of Energy, that is designed for the storage of the mercury material.

I can't see the threat with a building containing containers safely storing Mercury materials.  I guess I will have to wait for the meeting to learn more.  We store lots of extremely flammable, explosive, corrosive, and other dangerous stuff in special buildings designed for such material.  Yes, mercury has some serious problems but the element or compounds are not open to the air or handled other than to be in a cask or container of some type.

If it were to be placed in the ground in a disposal bed that could be a different matter.

II am assuming the Grand Junction site is on the list since the Department. has an office here and the land is already controlled by them.

As Democrats, we can't oppose everything.  We support Yucca Mtn. for high level uranium and other material disposal (at least I do).  One can argue the project would create jobs.
