Mercury Storage Discussion - 5

David:
I appreciate your comments but disagree. I also understand the differencea between storing mercury in the cell at Cheney vs. a stand-alone building even though I didn't make that clear in my post.
But it's quite one thing to store hazardous materials generated largely through local activity (in fact, I'd argue that's the responsible thing to do) and very much another issue to accept for local storage hazardous materials generated nationwide at a location where there was considerable discussion during the permitting process about limiting what would be stored. A few jobs and some short term construction activity are hardly an acceptable trade off in my view for the dangers inherent is transport through our communities, for instance. And, as I'm sure you know, there's significant disagreement within the ranks of elected Dems re: Yucca Mountain so that's hardly an appropriate comparison. It's also one that, even if it would constitute significant over reaching, I'd be happy to see used as an opponent of mercury storage locally.
