*Mesa County is eligible to increase the number of County Commissioners from three members to five. The Colorado Statute CRS 30-10-306.5 (1) states In any county having a population of seventy thousand or more, the membership of the board of county commissioners may be increased from three to five members pursuant to this section.
The resolution to increase County Commissioners from three to five must be referred to the voters at a General Election. The Colorado Statute CRS 30-10-306.5 (2) states Subject to referral as provided in this subsection (2) a board of county commissioners may pass a resolution increasing its membership to five members .... The resolution shall be referred to the registered electors of the county at a general election.
In 2008's General Election, Mesa County voted on Referred Measure 1A which asked the question whether to increase County Commissioners from three to five, with the following results:
No: 37, 950
Yes: 26,046
**Grand Junction City Council: individuals currently representing District C and the at-large position are term-limited, so there won't be an incumbent running for those seats. Most likely, whoever Council appoints this year to the District B seat vacancy (a result of Linda Romer Todd's resignation) will run again as an incumbent. Council elections always take place in April (not November).
***Palisade Board of Trustees: Applications due on March 5 at 4:30 pm. Municipal elections held this year for 3 open seats on April 6. These are 4 year terms. Applicants must reside in the city limits and have been a resident for 12 months. Pick up the nomination petitions at the town hall: 175 E 3rd street, or call Carol: 464-5602.
This is a mail-in ballot election only.
